Thomas Lid Ball
Our first meeting of the new Rotary year after the summer break was on Wednesday, August 12th. We were visited by Danuta Janse who is a Rotary member of Hattem-Heerde District 1560 in the Netherlands who told us a bit about Rotary in Holland and about the projects she is working on.
The speaker was Thomas Lid Ball, Secretary to the Norwegian Embassy in Iceland. Thomas led informal discussion regarding the Norwegian debate concerning EU membership and Norway's reaction to Iceland's membership application.
The discussion focused on comparison and contrast between the two states and on whether Icelanders would decide to join the EU. We wer lucky to have a number of guest who were interested in the subject, each from his own standpoint. A very lively first meeting.
